Illustration, Packaging
The challenge was to create packaging for a children’s book and plush character that felt both functional and narrative-driven. The system needed to protect the product, communicate the story of Bea’s first night away from the hive, and transform into interactive elements that extend play beyond the unboxing moment. Additional constraints included designing components that children could operate independently, ensuring materials were safe and durable, and integrating illumination features, such as the phone activated nightlight and flower projection, without compromising structural stability. The packaging also had to remain intuitive, educational, and visually cohesive across multiple detachable parts.

The packaging was designed to reinforce key themes from the story, comfort, exploration, and courage, while offering multiple layers of interaction. The detachable hive base, transparent cutout window, and flower pouch were chosen to make the system multifunctional, allowing it to shift from storage to storytelling to imaginative play. The decision to incorporate a nightlight ability and flower projection helps children recreate Bea’s world in a tactile, comforting way. Soft shapes, natural textures, and the leaf playmat with button and elastic closure were selected to emphasize warmth and craft, giving the child a dedicated space to engage with the character. Every element supports the narrative while encouraging open-ended play, making the packaging an extension of the book’s emotional and visual experience.
